I just picked up a little mini r/c heli and im having a blast with it. I have never had any r/c helis or planes before and only crappy cars. I bought a Syma s107.

http://www.amazon.com/Syma-S107-Gyroscope-Controlled-Helicopter/dp/8499000606/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1292887712&sr=8-1

I have had a little bit of instruction on flying helis from a friend with a simulator game, so I understand the basics, but on my first flight with this thing i had it going all over the room and landing exactly where I wanted. This thing is super easy to fly. the rotation and forward/backward controls are kind of slowed down, so the heli stays stable and isnt too twitchy.

Ive crashed it decently hard a few times and its holding up great. the rotors are plenty sturdy, and its got an aluminum frame. But it comes with 2 spare main rotors and one spare tail rotor.

So does anyone else have these fun and very affordable helis?

I got hooked on them a few years ago. Started much like you are with a cheap indoor unit, it broke after a few days and I exchanged it for the next step up... and the next... and the next..... in the end I traded an Xbox 360 for 2 semi pro heli's ($300 each at the hobby store) . I found that the little ones were very hard to get parts for and you will destroy some rotors. The batteries get expensive even with LiIon in them. Its like the bigger they are the harder they fall.

I have a couple of the Venom NightRanger 2s. Fun little electric, easy to get parts.

Ditto that's how I got into them too. I like the boats though; I had several before the nitro hydro I have now that I built.

I've always wanted to try a heli R/C but I've always been hooked on the dune buggies myself. Currently have a SB1 Shadow Nitro. Tons of fun and no matter how fast or high I make it jump it just doesn't break ha ha.

I've been flying my Boss's mini RC helicopter around here at the office for a week. I think that's what I'm gonna spend a little extra christmas cash on. It's so addictive!

I just have to avoid the CP (Collective Pitch) choppers. Those are a BITCH to fly.

Here is what I've been flying, will probably buy the same one.

Radio Shack used to have a little $99 starter kit R/C car or truck that was awesome. Peppy, battery powered, and customizeable. These things would run themselves right off the tires and burn them out. I just tried looking for them, but not sure if it's the same one. Mine got lost in the transfer during the divorce. Thanks for reminding me about toys I want again guys.

The collective is the rotating part that the blades are attached to. The more pitch, the more lift. It's another variable in R/C choppers that really makes them hard to fly. A fixed pitch uses throttle to control altitude and speed, while variable could change the pitch with the same RPM and achieve the same thing.

I may do the mini hitch actually. I looked into it. There is actually a MINI/Miata shop right beside MarMo, maybe they can install it for me.

I have not gotten into the flying stuff, but I was into the cars and trucks for awhile. I plan to get back into again.

The electric cars and trucks rule. Lipo power and brushless motors have come such a long way. The power and speed is absolutely amazing.

I want a Traxxas Stampede VLX 4x4 for bashing, and an HPI Vorza 1/8th scale buggy for racing. Running 6S lipo is does like 65mph+ and has enough power to backflip at 50mph.

I would love to get into planes as well. Maybe this summer...

i have 5 of the Syma S107's! my boys and i fly "missions" all over the house, and yes, it is REALLY addictive! a fairly inexpensive way to spend QT with your kids...that is until you start buying the big outdoor units!
