I came home from work yesterday and found my kitchen floor covered in termites. At first I thought they were ants but upon closer inspection I saw the wings hanging off of them. So I grabbed a can of Raid and that took care of them….for the moment. I woke up this morning and again, the floor was covered with them, only this time they were all dead. I’m assuming the Raid was still working. So basically is there anything I can do to get rid of them completely or is it just best to call the exterminator?

I say exterminator. They can probably find were they are coming from and if there is any damage to your house. Maybe even a home inspector? How old is your house?

My house is about 9 years old. This is the first time I've seen them in the 9 years I've lived in it. Right now I'm only seeing them in the kitchen.

The warm weather we just has has caused them to become active... I say call an exterminator because what you are seeing is just the result on an underlying issue... get you place inspected and treated before those little bastards do some real damage. (we had the same issue here at my office)

Give me a shout I work for active pest control. Depending on where you live I can get somebody out ther to take a look. But I would suggest doing something soon before you have more problems. Termites are no joke and the worst thing there damage will not be covered under you home owners policy.

CALL PEST CONTROL YESTERDAY!!! As said, your policy will not cover damage by them. Get ready for an expensive first bill. Always, always keep a running termite bond on your house. You'll pay a little each year for inspection and the bond will cover any damage from them. Read your policy carefully though. The first treatment will be expensive but you will have to do it since the are already there and active. Hopefully, they haven't done much damage yet. Termidore is O.K. as a treatment. They'll probably have to drill holes in the foundation, place in the treatment and seal up the drill holes. We have used this practice on several of our properties and have not had any further activity or problems. Hope this helps.

Termites like water. You might want to check to see if you have a small leak somewhere. Look under your kitchen floor and around the edges.

Exterminators may knock them out temporarily, but you have to find out where and why they are coming in.

No termites today but I think I found out where the're coming in. Looks like they came up underneath the kitchen sink. Looks like they've sheded their wings as the the cabinet floor beneath the sink is covered with wings. I can also see red dirt around the pipe fitting where they came in. I called the exterminator today.

This is the time of year termites swarm. They appear quickly shed wings and die, but lay eggs for a new generation. I agree with others best bet for keeping damage to a minimum is have a licensed termite pest control operator treat your place. I had termites swarm 3x in 15 yrs at my former house, had a termite bond on it with Arrow and they came out and retreated the area they swarmed from. Fortunately most of the damage was mainly cosmetic and limited to wall board. They can do some real damage if left untreated.
