according to this graph I think the aprilia is the better package. I take these things with a grain of salt though until i ride them.

just an example. the streetfighter vs the tuono. On paper the streetfighter wins. In real life FOR ME, the tunon wins.

I'd like to see an article where they take say an Aprilla vs. the Suzuki and allow the Suzuki to use the difference in price for upgraded parts. I think it would be an interesting article. For sure the Aprilla is pretty slick, but I bet with the difference in the prices we could make the Jap bikes just as slick.

What we really need is Top Gear with Motorcycles.

Or Compare the RSV4R to Jap 1k instead of the Factory. I think that would be a fair shoot out. And +1 on the Top Gear with motorcycles. Top Gear is hands down my favorite show.

I was about to say....HP is one thing, riding/handling/reliability/traction is quite another.

Well I dont doubt that the BMW has equal or superior riding/handling/reliability/traction compared to the R-1, esepcially considering all of the electronic nannies available on the BMW, but I guess my comment was more directed at the fact that regardless of power output bike performance is determined by the capabilities of the rider more than the bike and only compounded on harder to ride at the limit, more powerful bikes.

Basically, a slow guy will be slow on anything while the inverse is also true...hence the Ben Spies comment.

you arn't biased either are you troy?:)

im the same way though i like to ride them before i knock them. I think out of the euro bikes the bmw is probably the best bang for the buck.

After spending Saturday chasing Ben on his new BMW a few observations, At the beginning of the day he was not impressed with it compared to his 07 GSXR 1000 in two areas, Flicking into a turn and low and mid range torque. He did not get any of the electronics, ABS or TC, he is old school and wants to do it himself. By the middle of the day I think his mind was changing, This thing is a beast, accelleration out of a corner is simply amazing, we were on the Cherohala so had plenty of places to play and watch him pull away effortlessly time and time again. Low end is still lacking (compared to a 07 GSXR 1000) for slow tight mountain terrain but if it is kept above 7K it is a rocket ship. Brakes are Stellar and ergo's are excellent. By the end of the day he had nothing but praise. It looks like BMW got it right. Now I just have to talk him into letting me ride it.

We were pitted with the Northern group from STT at Barber a few weeks back... They had 2 of the BMW's, a Desmo and a RSV4.. The BMW is a very sweet machine for sure however I would have to say the Ape took the cake on performance and looks.. The same guy that owns the desmo owns the Ape and he said they both have their pro's however if he had to chose one it would be the RSV4 for handling purposes... He said it would go in the turns like a 600...and power out like a Bat out of Hell...
It was great Hearing all that Candy under one EZ Up....

I tested one yesterday on the road. I gotta say, i'm leaning towards it now over the Aprilia for my next bike. As I read someone else describe it; it feels like a liter bike newer r6. On the interstate accelerating it's a beast once you get up in the rpm's. Feels quite small too while riding it; which I like. Also, the brakes are phenomenal. Maybe better than the 1098's.
