Not just any racing. Real racing. Endurance racing. :) :) :)
The Rolex 24 on 1/29. It's like pitchers and catchers reporting to camp. It's like the top fuel guys running Pomona, except it's real racing, endurance racing. Unlike sprint racing where being the fastest ensures a win, endurance racing is different. There are a thousand ways to lose, and only one way to win. Endure, survive, execute mistake-free while deprived of sleep, food, water, and sleep.
Its the event that signals Winter is over. You've survived to see another year. Take a deep breath. Grit your teeth.
Let the 2011 racing season begin. Heil yeaz ! :) :)

Sorry, real endurance racing doesn't start until March with Sebring. Those Grand Am shit boxes are far from the beautiful Group C, IMSA GTP, and WSC prototypes that used to grace the opening of a new racing season.
I'll still watch cause I've been without racing for 3 months now, but I'm sure I'll be left with an empty feeling, longing for real sports cars and prototypes pushing the edge of technology and speed.

You say tomato, I say tomato. A 24hr race isn't "real racing" because you don't like the car/rules/sanctioning body/whatever? I have to disagree. I'm not a fan of most sanctioning bodies either, but it totally respect the time, effort, dollars, and skill involved in running a 24hr race. I think you do too - since you'll be watching :)
To be honest, I haven't been following the usual chatter/drama that always occurs between seasons. Maybe I'd feel differently if I had.
Like you, I've been racing-deprived for months, and I can't wait for the pre-race show to start. The pre-race show is a subliminal signal to my psyche that I've survived another Winter, and soon I'll be riding in the mountains, riding at the track, and watching others race when I'm not, or can't. Feels goooood!

Yeah, wish I had the time, patience, know-how, whatever, to get the video of the SBK practices, and MotoGP stuff. All subscription based, I guess.
I did just finish watching the end of the 24hr. I'd give it a B+. Once the DP cars got on the banking, there wasn't much passing - kinda like the old plate-races. I hated to see cars get knocked-out, or put into the garage by other cars. (I think I see some pay-back coming to JPM in the future ;) ). The new pavement looked excellent, though the pavement in the infield looked like the same grey stuff that's always been there - could be wrong on that though, I haven't checked into what they repaved, and what they didn't.
Props to the locally sponsored Suntrust guys (aren't they still ATL based?) for a good showing.
And, of course, props to Target and Chip. Taking 1st and 2nd is very stout.
