Just cruising the new site, like anything else it takes time to get accustomed to it. Different yes, but it works. Appreciate you guys bringing it back, having a number of local sites is always good.

If Ram is a Mod that person must be blind LOL. Seriously what does it take to be a Mod on here?
Yeh I don't wanna be a mod, if I was a mod, I have the "anything goes" mentality. Don't think that would be too good
I was just saying keep numerous backups, I've seen a whole company lose EVERYTHING because they didn't back up, they also eventually went out of business a few months later due to it. (After they sent their hard drive off to a specialist to try and recover data that didn't work)

Have seen this happen a few times myself. Those are the same kinds of people that keep a bunch of personal items in a safety deposit box or fire-proof safe and don't even think to backup their business data in any way shape or form.

Well, we're not a business. Nobody gets paid for any of the work that get's done behind the scenes. Anybody that was depending on a free on line forum as a secure place to keep meaningful data was asking for it. You can do your own backups if the content here is important to you. The story is that a backup was done just before the upgrade attempt, but it turned out to be corrupted. Multiple backups probably would have been corrupt as well.
Personally, I backup all the important info on my PC regularly. But that really only amounts to a couple of files. The rest of it is just ebricabrac.

I didn't say this was a business, I just used that as an example.
There is no harm in setting an automated backup to run once a week or so. The data can't be that big, honestly. Just think...you'll never have the board crash like it did again.. (twice in 2 years) I'm just sayin' then you won't have to deal with people whining :D Like this guy. :D

Wally, I agree with you 100% on this. I run several sites and they all run off db's. None have the daily traffic that GSB does, but I do back up the DB's at least every other month. Now I'm not complaining because the DB here was corrupted and data lost. I'm just giving an example. If this site was a bit more critical, like held tons of mechanical tech specs, how-to's that folks had taken many hours to prepare and such, it would be a different story. But mostly this place is like a giant bar where folks come in to tell lies after a few drinks of liquid creativity. :)
I see Ramm's side of thing as well though. Being that I'm also in IT, DB backups are just one of those "it takes just a few min so why not do it" type of things. The way I see it, it's 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. However, when the creators/admins/whatevers arn't too worried about the data loss, then there really isn't anything to get worked up about. Not to mention, I could give two shits about post count numbers anyway, lol. I'm just here for the lies & laughs.
