Does anyone know the possibilities or logistics of hosting an official MSF course somewhere not a standard location?
I might be getting up a student group here at gatech, and I thought it'd be cool if we could have a class on campus one weekend. One of the professors i talked with was interested in sponsoring it, but he doesn't even have his Class M yet.

ah No and doubt it would happen. Msf is ran from the state approved coarses DDS with a time guidelines that must be within limit's.
It's not like you have a choice on where it's held either. If you want your class m
I suggest the Msf location at the Honda facility.I know they also teach a class at North Metro tech too. Look at the Msf website for more information. You could also have a private teacher as well Like Atlanta Motorcycle schools provided from Ken and his wife.

I'd think you could pull it off if you can provide an appropriate location (i.e. GA Tech parking lot. . ). I'd go to the website and send them an email and see what they'd say - they have to PAY to use their normal courses (North Metro, etc.) so if you could provide the parking lot and the individuals would actually be MORE profitable for them. Only issue would be getting the bikes from their location to theirs, not sure if they have the capability to pull that off.
I'm an Emory student (getting my MBA) and have had several students ask me about getting their license. If you manage to set something up, let me know and I might be able to funnel a couple of extra students your way.

With the state of Georgia cutting back on hiring Msf teacher's I highly doubt your going to get this to work. Number one you have to have special premission for Facility use and Take in mind Insurance requirements have to be managed too. It's hard to manage something like this inless you do a Private training like I mentioned above. Good luck but I know a few Msf teachers and know the system all too well.

Instructors are not state employees. They work for MSF, a non-profit corporation, and some are even volunteers. I doubt the state decides where the courses are held either. As long as the course is run by MSF and adheres to the MSF curriculum, I don't see why the state would care. Contact MSF (http://msf-usa.org/index_new.cfm). You'd obviously have to have GA Tech on board to approve the use of their facility, but I'm sure MSF is expert at the details of that. I'd say the biggest problem is that all of the regular MSF courses tend to be booked months in advance so the availability of bikes and instructors could be an issue.

absolutely correct. In fact, anyone can become a Rider Coach (as MSF calls them) for a very minimal fee. The only hitch to that being, that the Rider Coach has to be state certified once he/she has graduated the MSF Rider Coach course. Not much cost to that either, but just imagine going through the qualifications. All in all, you're looking at about a week and a half of time suckage. Laying down the course ranges isnt hard, and can be done with relative ease... hmmmmmm- gears turning

MSF does offer private courses. PM me and I'll put you in contact with the powers-that-be.
FNG, it's a little more than a week-and-a-half. It's a rigorous program, but as you said, inexpensive at $250 (through the state). The program certifies you as a licensed instructor for MSF material, and if you've taken the state course, it will automatically certify you to teach for the state. You'd have to be under an additional, separate contract to teach for private sites. Just like any other certification, you must maintain it by "continued education" programs and actively teaching.
