Ah, I've seen video of that thing in action. I wasn't a plane, but rather a jet powered hydrofoil designed to ferry large numbers (like 500) troops ashore quickly.

Spruce Goose was actually designed as a cargo PLANE, but only ever got a couple feet off the water (actually they say it could have flown, but the day of the test run, the FAA hadn't given permission for them to get airborne yet... Hughes insists it came up on it's own, or so he claimed to the FAA, but those in the plane with him say he intentionally made it lift off to give the big middle finger to all the doubters and the FAA.)
