Wondering if anyone is going to bike week in myrtle beach this year? Looking to get a group together to go and have some fun.

May 27-29 (friday & home on sunday)
hotel *TBA (will depend on number of people the more the cheaper it will be :) )

The plan is to pull the bike and ride locally in Myrtle Beach.

Granted it is "black bike week" but I see no color and if you wanna roll and ride, lets get it planned out have some fun.

I might be in sounds like a plan. I would haul my bike tho because thats a long haul been there lot's of times and know the area pretty well. I usually stay at the Hampton on the beach tho . It has a nice setup and 4 story parking garage and bike parking on the last floor.

Im trying to get a head count so I can get some prices for hotels...so far klassified187 and I are the only definite ones going so far and we are hauling the bikes.

I'll check into the Hampton, if we get say 6 people we can easily rent a condo or something and split the cost.

well tons of the locals bitched and cryed about bike week and they had said some junk about not letting it happen. this was last year i think but not sure. Im a condo owner in Garden City, just south of Myrtle.(home of the original Sams on the corner) Good luck on getting a condo. most units jump from a week rental to a monthly rental from Nov-March and back to weekly in April. But if they are not rented they might work with you on a nightly rate. Our unit is rented out via Dunes Realty.www.dunes.com you can see all there spots for rent , prices, ect. online.

opps just saw MAY oh well still good info.

a lot gets shut down everywhere when something big comes to town, but I think there will be plenty to do and see. (being a "newbie" and all)

Yeah, you'll see a bunch of 200 pounders in thongs testing the strength of some of the bike's subframes. LOL...I just couldn't stop myself...LOL..

I am beginning to think we shouldnt stay in a condo thats right in the middle of all the action.. I am thinking we should get something a few miles away. I see benefits and downsides to both but being in the middle of all that traffic all the time would get a little old

THE MUFFIN MAN

definitely wanna get a spot "off" the strip. you wanna be able to move around freely, and only get "in traffic" if you choose. lots of parties and events away from ocean blvd and the strip, in fact, most places you wanna be are NOT on the strip.

I'm going to Thunder Beach the end of April. MUCH more laid back not nearly as crazy/crowded/expensive. We get a beach front condo every year & split the cost between 3 or 4 people & it ends up costing about 90-100 bucks a piece for 3 nights.

Looking @ booking lodging for May 27 and 28th on Myrtle Beach which is about 15 miles from where all the action is.. I saw some things on priceline in that area that look pretty nice so instead of fighting for a last minute over priced room on Ocean Boulevarde I figured we could book hotels a few minutes away for half the cost. So far its just me, PJ, one of my relatives.. I am sure there will be some last minute additions though because two of my friends that dont ride were talking about coming along and "caging it" the whole time. We are planning to book our rooms around 1st of April.

Jamison are you organizing this? Would be be leaving Friday night and coming back Sunday? Do we need to book our own rooms? I got the clear from the G/F to go (she wants to come too) so if its organized efficiently I'm in.

Im head this one up....Im making calls to find one thats affordable. The plan is to leave Friday (time TBA) and come back on Sunday; hauling bikes. I need a head count of people who are going. So I may be able to get a group deal.

I think the City of Myrtle Beach made some moves to stop it but those moves were repealed when local businesses suffered.. The party has since moved to North Myrtle Beach/Atlantic Beach.

TroyBoy30

yea it was just myrtle beach proper that set the ordinances. The party is actually in south myrtle. Murrels inlet. Unless you are talking about black bike week which is in atlantic beach. We always prefer to go to the fall bike week since there is only about 75k people instead of 300k!

Here is the thing with that....the city of Myrtle Beach is trying to push the bikers out (just like everyone has said) so there is not much info online about events. The lady I spoke with at the viking hotel said events will be spread by word of mouth because they are trying to avoid the cops. I did find a few events websites....here they are

you all DO NOT want to stay on the southside, unless you want to have to travel MILES AND MILES to attend/participate in anything. once the city of myrtle beach tried to kill the event altogether, nearly all activities have returned Atlantic beach, where the origins of the event began. believe me, i attend every year and there is NOTHING happening on the south side of town, in fact most people are boycotting any and all venues/events/ etc within the city limits of myrtle. last year we made 1 foray into the city just to see how deserted it was, and trust me, you could see tumbleweed rolling across ocean blvd. you also want to make sure, wherever you stay, that the hotel not only accepts motorcycles, but provides 24hr security for motorcycles, that is unless you wanna come back home without it. when the city of myrtle beach enacted those bogus ordinances, most of the hotels within the city limits began enforcing a policy of NO MOTORCYCLES OR TRAILERS PERMITTED on site.

Well a 20 mile ride isnt bad.. we dont plan on staying an hour away if we can help it.. and we are going to make sure we ask if motorcycles and trailers are permitted before we book rooms.. thank for the heads up

The price looks good to me. If you are looking for a condo that people rent out, rather than a hotel, then try this website: www.vrbo.com I generally stay in a rental rather than a m/hotel if it is more than a couple nights. I like to have a kitchen. I have had luck with that site and there are generally options in various price ranges.

Might be easier to call this plan a bust for now PJ.. we waited a lil too late to decide to take this trip.. I really wanna go but the fact that rooms in North Myrtle beach are gone except for the 300 per night ones and the cops are gonna be out in full force everywhere else makes the idea of waiting until next year seem like the best idea

I'm riding down with a group from the north georgia area. We're gonna leave either on Wed. or Thurs. If you're just looking for a fun rally to go to this one is pretty good. We normally stay at Regency Towers & they always run a "3 nights for the price of 2" deal during Thunder Beach. The website is www.regencytowers.net but there are several other places listed on the rally website. Pretty much anywhere you stay is gonna be close to the action.

BTW, I called Regency the other day for prices & I think they had some 3 b.r. beachfront units for less than $500 for all 3 nights. The 2 & 1 b.r. units are gonna be somewhat cheaper. If you get enough folks to split the room it can be a pretty inexpensive trip.

It's mostly cruisers but I've been hitting this rally for 6 years now & every year there seems to be more sportbikes showing up. I actually don't mind hanging with the cruiser crowd, when you're at a wet t shirt contest what difference does it make what kind of bikes are parked outside?:D It beats sitting at home.
