Axel grease?

So I took my rear wheel off for the first time. Do I need to put some sort of grease on it when I put it back end? If so what kind?

I clean mine off and put a dab of lithium grease about once a year.

White lithum spray grease? I see belray and Maxima makes some specific axel grease but I'm heading to Walmart.

Mine is in a tube. Nothing special, just white lithium grease. Just use a tiny bit.

Like D says just a dab. The grease has absolutely nothing to do with how your bike rolls. Its simply for letting the axle slide ito the inner race of the bearings (the part that actually does roll on). The grease is just there to let the axle slide in and give it a coating so it won't sieze to the races for the next time you want to take it out. So all it really needs is a coating. Anything else just attracts crud.

Ya that Bel-Ray waterproof grease is badass. Damn...wonder if I kept it or need to buy another batch.

White lithium grease can wash off easier than some of the waterproof varieties. Not a good thing.....
