My dentist keeps harping on me to get this done. I'm terrified of dental work! That little drill is just EVIL!!!! So, who here has had theirs removed, and was it as bad I expect? Thanks ya'll!

Are they cutting them out or will they be pulling them? If they have already come in and they are just going to pull them it shouldn't be that bad. If they have to cut them out it you might be a little groggy afterwards, but also shouldn't be that bad. Just don't smoke or drink anything with a straw for a few hours after. If you do you might get what they call "dry socket" and you will be in for some pain. My wife had hers cut out 8 yrs ago and she was fine after just a little groggy. About 30 mins later she smoked a cig knowing that she shouldn't and with me telling her not to. She spent the next couple of days in horrible pain from "dry socket." Just do what the dentist tells you to and you should be just fine. I am a big sissy when it comes to dental work to, so I feel your pain.

if they are not bothering you, don't bother. If they are then yet. I got them out about 10yrs ago. don't remember a thing, woke up at home.

Got mine out towards the end of high school. Pulled all 4 at once. Not that big of a deal...just took them a while to stop bleeding.

i had a bad experience, but i had it done when i had mono(didnt realise it at the time) which did not help things for the recovery period.
Whatever you do, do NOT get a dry socket afterwards. make sure you rinse very good everytime you eat. I ended up getting one and they had to take a pair of small plyers for dentistry work grab the socket and twist until it popped with no numbing. Thats easily the most pain ive ever experienced.

I had all 4 of mine cut out probably 15 years ago. Did not have anesthesia, just numbing shots and the cutting/removal wasn't bad. I could feel pressure but no real pain. On the way home, the numbing wore off, then there was some pain. I had some difficulty eating for a day or two because my jaw was very sore and so forth but it was manageable as long as the food was soft.

Got mine removed a little bit before I moved down here. The procedure was cake because like others have said you are sleep. Afterward was not so pleasant and lets just say I'm happy its a once in a lifetime ordeal. I did alot of research beforehand and read all types of stories, things you shouldn't do etc so I was paranoid about "losing my clot" so no drinking through straws, spitting. My breath REEKED. Blood soaked gauze. I love to eat and we went to Houlihans soon after and I couldnt enjoy my food.
Since hindsight is 20/20 I'll just say I'm glad I did get it done because I dont have to worry about that now. I was getting some pain with them.

This is part of the whole losing your clot bit. Theres blood, tissue, whatever it is that clogs up the whole. If you dislodge that, usually from sucking, you can develop dry socket. I didnt have it but from what I hear its NOT good.

I'm not having any pain, although one of them is clean through the gum. I've heard people tell me both things... get them done, and if they're not hurting don't worry about it. I'm starting to think about doing it, but still in no rush! Thanks everyone!

My dentist didn't tell me anything. I just did what I read on the internet. Sad part was I was repacking my gauze a day or two after the surgery and my wife was calling me a little girl. Only reason why I stopped using the gauze is because she keep calling me names or else I would still probably have gauze in my mouth.
Btw, theres a good mouthwash called Breath RX which is non-alcoholic. I forgot why but you shouldn't use alcoholic mouthwash. I think it dries out the socket.

At your age I'd get it done, chances are you will wake up in the middle of the night one night because of the pain. Also even though you arent experiencing any pain now its possible the tooth under the gum is decaying and when they do go to take it out it will break into a million pieces.... not good. I've heard of that happening too.

I had all 4 of mine pulled the day I graduated high school, under local anesthesia. I could feel the pressure, hear the grinding, and smell the ground up tooth matter. Overall, not that bad though (I have odd pain tolerances). Only complaint was the last tooth wasn't properly numbed, figured it out when he poked me with a needle to check. He re-numbed it, tried again, and as it was coming out, I realized the novocaine had worn off, and I about screamed as he twisted that last tooth out. Worth it though. If you have insurance, probably easier for most to be put under. I had to pay for everything out of pocket, so local it was.
