Got the new Verizon Thunderbolt last night to replace my Droid 1 and I have to say....

SICK speed!

Consistent 15Gbs download and 20Gbs upload speeds on 4G LTE.

Battery life is supposed to suck real bad....we'll see what she does after a few charging cycles over the next couple of days/weeks.

As long as you kill all unneeded tasks when you're not using it, its fine. I rooted mine to put SetCPU on it and it generally lasts me all day with moderate use.

I am considering rooting mine, didnt want to lose all the data on it. Whats the process?

Unless you're overly confident in command line interfaces/adb, I'd wait for a 1click root for it. Its a long, drawn out process.

Nope, LTE is the real deal.

I give you Exhibit A from my phone:

And I've downloaded at sustained speeds like that. I forgot I had my phone tethered to my work PC and downloaded 8.5GB of SQL databases in less than an hour and a half. Oops.

Well, I think the majority of us know those insane speeds won't last when they get some usage on the network, but man what a great time to be an early adapter. And if 5-10mbs+ is still obtainable after more phones come out for it, heck that's still not bad and LTE and other technologies are only going to get faster.

Agreed. But at 5-10 att's + network will match or better that so no need to switch for me

Do you have to speak unusually loud to get the voice recognition to work? That, and the car dock not always activating the car mode on the phone seem to be two prevailing issues so far for me.

Also, while in car dock....Speakerphone seems useless, I guess because the speaker is in the back...behind the kickstand and then further blocked by the car dock....Dumb design right there!

No problems here with the speech recognition. Can't comment on the car dock though. I haven't even driven my car since I got the phone. I will say having the kickstand prop up the phone on the same side as where the charger plugs in is a rather dumb oversight though.

Hell everybody I know makes complaint's about Att even Speedracer wife mentioned problems and ditch them last week. Sadly in Att case they know there big and have this attitude to go with it. I havent had problems with them lately I guess my bitching payed off (LOL)...

I'm on Verizon and have no problem admitting that in many areas, AT&T's 3g network is faster than Verizon's. I've compared with phones with the speedtest.net app side by side. I love Verizon, and they're better than AT&T in many (most) ways, but they don't have the upper hand in all areas.

Have no idea the speed, nor was that the intent of my comment, but AT&T is a dropped call or deadzone problem waiting to happen and that is certainly without refute. What's the point of having a phone you can't complete a conversation on?

I switched from AT&T 5 years ago and have not had a single dropped call since...not one. Well, unless you count the times I am talking to my iPhone peeps and I lose them..LOL

Even with all the blame of it being the iPhone's problem, there was just a story out of 5 to 1 dropped calls on the iPhone4 when comparing AT&T to Verizon. Simply put...their network sucks.

Maybe their 3G data is better than Verizon....who knows...None of this was the intent of the OP, but certainly not surprised it has gone there!

And Verizon's 4G LTE is certainly the clear leader in speed....if only for now.

actually it's common knowledge that atts 3g is faster than verizons. in fact atts edge is faster than verizons 3g

gsm will always be and has always been faster than cdma.

no it wasn't the intent of the op, but it's where the conversation has evolved. related to lte speeds

Yeah, but if you are in one of the many dead spots, or cannot complete half of your phone calls without dropping, who cares how fast it is?

I would rather take the 600 that never breaks down and always gets you where you want to go than the "faster" literbike that leaves you stranded on the side of the road half the time...

But now, you can go to Verizon 4G and have cable modem speed *and* reliability.

Oh, and for you guys rooted and tethering on 4G, be careful, there are some rumors in the Android world that VZW is about to drop the hammer on people who do that. They, and other carriers, may even be going so far as to crack down on all rooting and jailbreaking, maybe even terminating people's service when they get caught. Just rumors now, nothing concrete, but the source is somewhat credible, or has been in the past anyway...

I'd say 4G being mainstream and pushing 3G to the wayside by 4th quarter is EXTREMELY optimistic. I'm a huge nerd, an early adopter, and love gadgets... But I just bought a brand new D2G.. I won't be upgrading for at least a year or two. Countless others are in a similar boat.

The people that will dictate how your network evolves will come on board within the year. Its also these people that phone carriers are going to market to. How many commercials did you see for a crappy Edge Windows Mobile phone after iphone was released?

HTC just released their first-quarter profits for 2011 with triple profits. The reason for their massive profit boost was directly attributed to increased demand of Android smartphones like the HTC EVO and the HTC Thunderbolt. Company earnings handily destroyed analyst expectations of NT$12.99 billion by hitting a first-quarter record of NT$14.83 billion ($511 million). HTC indicated that its first-quarter revenue grew 174% to NT$104.2 billion.

The sales numbers are staggering. Almost $15 billion for a single quarter?

The company that I used to work for, ADP, is like a $9B a year company, employs 40,000 people and is the largest contributor to the IRS. One in 5 Americans gets a paycheck through them, they are a HUUUUUGE company, and a major financial institution and their annual earnings is only about 70% of what a single phone maker produces in just one quarter.

Truly amazing how much money people spend on phones.

I never had the original. I had the 3G, and one day I got fed up and threw it across a parking lot because it dropped calls 7 times in one afternoon as I drove from Lawrenceville to Smyrna. I replaced it with a 3GS, that later was warranty replaced because the GPS chip was bad.

Those are the only iPhones I had. Never had the original or the 4G.
