Y'all remember a while back I was soliciting advice about big bore revolvers. Well I happened upon this beauty last week and couldn't leave it languishing alone in the pawn shop. :D
1993 Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum, 7½” barrel. It’s old enough that it doesn’t have the safety lock, but it’s still “New Model” so it does have the transfer bar.

$325 out the door! :woot: It really is an elegant piece of machinery. I fired a box of .44 Special and about half a box of .44 Magnum (Hornady 240g XTP) through it yesterday. Despite being very experienced and having strong wrists and a good grip, I had significant muzzle flip problems, so I ordered a set of Pachmayr "Decelerator" grips last night. They should be in next week and I'll try again.

The blackhawk is a very cool handgun. I typically fire my handguns in single action operation anyway. Only once did I need double action (I was being charged by a herd of wild boars), and it still didn't help. I dropped a couple, wounded a couple, and got run over anyway. So I really like the single action and the super sturdy frame of the blackhawk.
I have one in .357 Maximum (no, that's not a typo). It is a much bigger handful than either of my .44 mags. Since it is single action only, the trigger work is much less daunting and you can feel more comfortable lowering the pull weight to a level that you just wouldn't do on a double action. When I did the trigger on my blackhawk, I installed a Wolff spring. I also stoned the hammer and sear, and polished them until they were mirror smooth. I then applied my secret weapon for triggers. It is a moly substance used for treating bores (moly-fusion). That thing breaks like glass at 20oz.

Sorry for getting sidetracked and bragging on mine. Just throwing some ideas out there for you. ;-)
At that price, you got a sweet deal on a great gun! Enjoy!

I've got a stainless SBH that I really like. to compensate for the muzzle flip, I had it magnaported years ago, right by the front sight. gives the recoil more of a "push" back rather than flipping the nose up. makes it much easier to control. I handload all my calibers and usually just load them a bit light, I've got a 35 remington pistol if I want to scare people. ;)

BTW anyone have a stainless scope mount for a stainless super black hawk (non hunter model)?
