Most of those bikes you listed are going to be in the 2800-3400 range. If you find one for around 2k, you can except to have problems with it due to neglect, lack of maintenance, and/or someone wanting to flip it quick and should definitely take an experienced motorcycle mechanic with you to check it out. I sell used bikes and I can tell you from experience that the cheap "deals" (if you want to call it that), are the ones with the most problems. All of our bikes go for full retail or right around there because they are immaculate(mechanically and physically) when they are sold.

I wish I could add 8g's and I was looking for an older bike like 1994 and up. I don't want anything brand new. High mileage will not bother me.
Thank you so much smokintalon for your advice I will have about 3,700 by this Thursday. But I wanted to save some money for gear too. I am just seeing what I can find as of right now I am not to worried about some cosmetic flaws as long as the bike runs like it should.

The katanas, bandits, sv650's are good suzuki's to start on. If you plan to ride for a while, I would look around for the gsxr600. You should be able to find one around 32ish in good shape. Don't let the mileage bother you. Some people think 15k on a bike is a lot, but if its been well maintained, it will be fine. The best part of your gear is your helmet. Buy the best helmet you can afford and thank me later! A mesh riding jacket with CE rated pads will suffice for street riding, but leather will provide the most protection. Scorpion makes good mesh jackets with liners for cold weather. And for a starter bike, cosmetics shouldn't be a concern... a few scratches, a crack, just minor stuff would be fine. Rash on the frame, cracked engine covers, and bent subframe/frame is an issue and although all of this can be repaired properly and brought back to its original integrity, it will present a problem because the bike will not ride as it should without being repaired.

If you have any questions or need someone to go look at a bike with you, let me know. My schedule is reasonably flexible and I don't mind helping a new rider, or any rider, find the right bike or gear.

Thank you for all your advice, I am going to listen to it and learn. If I have any questions or anything I will let you know. I am still on the search for a bike, but I will keep an eye out for gsxr600's

Well hello there. I have a 1994 Suzuki Katana. 3rd owner with 22k on the odometer. Bought the bike in 09 with 13k on the odometer. Bike was purchased from a college student in VA. Drove up and picked up the bike. Have all pics of bike with color change. Bike has new cables(clutch, throttle and choke), tires(conti road Attacks), chain/sprocket, clutch. Most of the miles put on last year riding the bike to work 110 miles(Covington to Alpharetta).
Bike was laid down since initial plastics were repaired and painted by myself. I love the bike but want something else now. Sig pix is one week from when I completed the bike in 09. Located in Covington. $1800.
