Finally going to get around to picking up an LCP to replace Mary's old 380 Bersa. I prefer the Ruger and she likes the LCP over the LCR. Any recommendations for places with good pricing? I see the recommended retail is $373 from Ruger.

Has she shot a LCP?
Not yet. She's had a lot of time on her Bersa 380. What'cha thinking, strength to rack the shells being a problem? Also considered the LCR but she has been more partial to the LCP.

Oh, and she's got a lot of time on my Ruger P91 as well, so she's used to that type of pistol. I hadn't checked the spring strength on the LCP yet.

My dad has one John. He mentioned selling it. Let me ask him tomorrow and I'll get in touch with you.

Any opinion on a Sig P238? A little more than the Ruger, but a sweet looking gun. Almost a carbon copy of a 1911 design which I am fond of and apparently the trigger pull is very smooth where the Ruger has a looooong trigger pull.

It kicks like a mule. barton had one he can tell ya. its size it great but cause it is so small and light it kicks hard. After 20 rounds you dont want to shoot it anymore. I know its not a range gun but you have to shoot it to become familiar with it. NOt a gun you want to have to use not knowing how it kicks.

Still haven't talked to dad, but I'm headed to see him shortly. The recoil is definitely noticeable. It didn't bother me that much. Some people say it hurts their hand. I've heard people say that about compact 40 cal weapons. I guess I just expect recoil and it doesn't bother me.
Like Seca said, it wast designed to be a fun target shooter. I have shot 50 rounds more than once in a day and it was no big deal. It's relatively accurate for its size. I loved concealing it in my pocket. Was much more convenient than strapping on a holster and larger weapon.

Have her shoot it first. They aren't super range friendly

Really about the only range time will be getting used to it. I have some other good pistols for range time. This will spend most of the time being a carry.

John, Dad says he wants to hang onto it for now. Check out the S&W Bodyguard. Also .380, same size as the LCP and comes with a laser already on it. Bass Pro is advertising them for $349.99 right now. I am more of a Smith fan anyways. Saw a guy at the range this week shooting one. He was grouping them tight. Much tighter than I could with the LCP, tighter than Seca's mom!! I am eyeballing that weapon now. Check it out.

Buds has the LCP for $290 with free shipping to your FFL. Figure $25 more for your FFL to handle the paperwork in your in it for less than most want for a used one.

What is Buds? Not familiar with that one. And someone mentioned the S&W with the crimson trace on sale at Bass Pro. Was that online or did you see it at the Sugarloaf store? That also looks really promising.

I mentioned the S&W Bodyguard. It is in their mailer that comes each month. Haven't been to the Sugarloaf store to check it out yet. If I go I will be leaving with one if they have them in stock. Lol, trying to stay away. Just bought another gun the other day. They are starting to pile up.
I recommend you look into it John. That's a great price. They are on theoutdoorstrader for over $400 and if u can pick it up new for $349.99 + tax, you'd be doing good. The way that guy at the range was hitting with that laser impressed me. I owned the LCP and wouldn't own another. My fathers has functioned flawlessly. I didn't have such luck with mine. Went back to Ruger twice. They said it was fine so I sold it. Had no faith in it. Maybe I got a lemon.
Anyways, if I get another pocket gun it will be the Smith.

the sig is a really nice peice. i've got a Colt mustang pocket lite which is what the sig is patterned after. single action only so you either have to carry it cocked and locked or pull the slide back. not a big deal but it's different than all the other 380's out there. I love my colt and may end up with the sig but its quite a bit heavier than the other pockete 380s. but the trigger is something the others can only dream of. and it's about twice the price normally.
another option is the Taurus TCP 380. I was all set to buy the ruger and i'm a ruger fan but I liked the feel of the Taurus, and the fact that on the last round the slide locks open. mine has been smooth and no issues at all with it feeding anything I put in it. I've put maybe 200 rounds downrange with mine and carry it with Critical Defense hornady ammo. you really need to shoot 100+ rounds in the little 380's to get used to them and to break them in IMHO. mine will group pretty well if I take the time to really sight it in. they do make a laser for it if you want a laser but IMHO if you are shooting it 10-15' you don't really need one that much. I have one on my g22 but mainly because it has a light on it as well. I looked at the sig, the diamondback, the taurus, the ruger and the keltec before I bought my TCP. I got it at 400 jewelry and pawn for right at $300.

It appears the Bodyguard is quite popular. Bass Pro is out and backdated for of couple of months on rainchecks. But they said the $349 will be the regular price. On that note, Mary checked online and found a gun shop in Lilburn listing it on their website for $337. Just have to see if they have any in stock. She's going to check on that today. I would say based on the bang for the buck (no pun intended), the S&W just can't be beat. Going to push for that.

Will do. She'll be checking on it more this afternoon and hopefully can get hold of one. Damn thing definitely seems popular as hell.

if you decide on a LCP, a friend of mine has one in mint condition and mentioned selling it with ammo and holster for around $350obo

Let me see what I can find out about the S&W and if they are going to be back in anywhere anytime in the near future and I'll definitely let you know.

i have never fired any subcompact 40s, but i have fired a few full size 40s. all of the later kicked quite a bit. seems that a subcompact would be a handful.

Her little 380 Bersa really isn't bad at all. This will be a little more recoil, but still within reason.
My opinions -
A buddy of mine got the S&W model with the crimson trace built in for his birthday. I only put 30-40 rounds through it, but I do not like it as much as my old Taurus 85. YMMV.
I have had two Walther PPK's, both manufactured during the Interarms era. The first one, I never could get accurate with (and .380 ammo was unavailable) so I sold it. I wound up with another one and this one I can shoot very comfortable and with good accuracy. Strange, but true.
I had a S&W M&P .40C that I bought to be a carry piece. It turned out to be a little too big for my liking. I saw a significant difference in my accuracy with the .40C and the regular .40. I might could have learned a new grip that equalized the accuracy, but three trips to the range did not identify it.
I really like the LCP. I do not own one, but I have shot a friend's and once you get over the extreme small size, it shoots real well.
If you look at a LCR, don't be scared when it "rattles" when you shake it. Apparently, they all do it.
I have not shot the new Ruger LC9, but I sure want to.
