WTF?

UPS' only excuse, "well, I see it is headed in the right direction now."

UPS has been going downhill for quite awhile, in my opinion. Looks like they're trying to prove it to you. That's inexcusable.

They're not the only ones. The USPS is planning another stamp cost increase and there is talk on the table about stopping mail delivery on Sat.

There's a couple options here. Its probably doubtful your package has made that trip up and down the East Coast as the scans imply. When UPS (or any company) scan's packages, they do them as they come down a belt. Then once a trailer is loaded, they scan the trailer to say, okay those packages are now on this trailer. That trailer is then scanned out at one location and scanned in at another and is of course linked to all the packages that were scanned into it. Its very possible someone screwed up when downloading the scanner and accidentally re-loaded old data to make it look like your package (and probably all of them on that trailer) suddenly appeared back in VA.

It would be easier to figure out if you had multiple packages from that same trailer load and see if they all show that. Don't worry, you probably aren't the only one wondering why your package looks like it went on a wild goose chase.

It was supposed to be delivered on the 16th. Either my book is going up and down the lowcountry or UPS is even more incompetant than I was previously thought.

I would tend to go with this option. ;)

I ship and receive stuff via UPS daily. At least 99 times out of 100, it is delivered correctly and according to the published schedule. I don't know if they publish error/delay stats, but I expect that overall they're probably 99.9x%. Everybody has war story but considering the number of packages they handle every day, I think they do a pretty remarkable job.

yep. Hell, just be glad you can actually SEE where your package is, even if it is bouncing up and down the east coast. Try shipping something USPS, and when it's a week late, trying to figure out where its at. Good ****ing luck. USPS absolutely SUX when it comes to shipping packages.
