From firsthand experience: H1N1 (a.k.a. swine flu) sucks. Fever of 104.7 degrees and unbelievable headaches.
Get your vaccinations. It would have been much better to be riding yesterday.
This has been a public service announcement from your local GSB now-crispy-fried pork rind (at least that's what I feel like).
That is all...

Thanks, I'm much improved today (two days later and fever is down to around 101). I just hope my reminder can help someone else avoid it by getting the vaccination.
Not exactly the best "first post" on the new and improved forum. Guess I gotta start somewhere..

Did you get diagnosed by a doctor with H1N1? My girlfriend and I have been sick all week. Both out of work a few days. She went to the doctor. I didn't. They didn't even give her a diagnosis. Our fevers have not gone over 101.5. Started with tons of coughing that produced nothing. Then the fever hit. I had a fever for three days. Whatever it is spread rapidly. The day after she started coughing, it hit me.
I feel like I have broken ribs from coughing. I also feel like my kidneys were hurting. Coughed up a little blood once. She swears up and down that we had swine flu. They gave her antibiotics, but I think I got better quicker than her without going to the doc. Antibiotics don't do anything for swine flu anyways.
Both sides of her family have had whatever we had. They have been coughing up the phlegm for around 2 weeks and spreading it to each other. I'm not convinced it's H1N1, but one girl I work with had it and says our symptoms sound like it. I've never had the flu, so I don't know what to compare it to. I've had pneumonia and had strep throat a bunch. Those two were worse than this.
The only way to confirm it is by sending the results to a State lab. I was just curious if you had that done. The only two people I know that had it confirmed never got over 101.5, but this virus doesn't affect everyone the same.

Did you get diagnosed by a doctor with H1N1? Yes, the doctor ran a test (swab up the nose) that came back positive, and I was prescribed Relenza, which is a combination of Tamiflu and another antiviral drug. I don't know with certainty if it helped or not, but I did seem to feel somewhat better almost immediately after taking it... whether it was mental or not I don't know.
I think every flu type hits different people different ways, but I'm no physician. After the diagnosis I hit the CDC website, even there they say the symptoms can vary.

Well glad you're getting better. Any diarrhea or vomiting? Neither of us experienced that. I've read tons of websites trying to diagnose myself. LOL. I worry about crap too much though. My fever is gone and I feel better. Guess that's all that matters. Still would like to know if that's what we had. Maybe I will save a cup full of junk I cough up and take it to the lab. I'm sure they would appreciate that.
I can't remember the last time I was sick so I get all worked up about it. In 8 years or so that I have worked where I do, I have never called in sick. Until this week. Good track record came to an end.

Neither really. Just very slight sore throat, and some minimal coughing and runny nose (not unlike a normal cold), and the extended fever with extreme headaches, dizziness, and fatigue.
