looking for a cheap ruger 10/22 for my little brother in-law to start plinking some cans in the backyard.
It sould be in functional condition but stock condition or color does not matter.
It can be scratched up or discolored as long as it shoots straight.
It will be used for plinking anyways so I would like to spend between FREE and $150

He wants/needs a ruger 10/22 since his friends have them too so they can exchange parts magazines or whatnot.

good luck. maybe you'll find one but the best deals I've found were either at Walmart (about $200) or 400 jewelry and pawn, they had the new threaded barrel version for $224 last time I was up there. I"m headed up there again today I'll see what they have.
I tried to find a used on just to take the receiver out of for a project (had a Hogue stock and a TacSol SBX barrel) and never could find anything under $200 used. unless it was an older model with the full metal trigger housing, I'm not paying new prices for used stuff...
check www.theoutdoorstrader.com and you might get lucky but most 10/22's seem to be as expensive new as used. go figure. it's like glocks. ;)

Out of your price range by $50, but, if you decide to go new, Cherokee Gun in Canton has brand new Ruger 10/22's with an 18.5 barrel, hardwood stock for $199.95

guns and gear in Lavonia (up 85 almost to SC at exit 173 I think) has them on sale for like $175 right now. worth a call if you are still in the market. that's the cheapest I've ever seen a new one and used ones are usually $200+

The first vBulletin board I was ever on was rfc.....rimfirecentral.com. You should check it out. Talk about popular! I have built quite a few of them over the years, and I owe the bill for all of those parts to RFC. My wife would like to sell some of mine for sure, but they aren't your garden variety Rugers any longer. I have two that wear suppressors. One is a 10/17 with an experimental barrel (serial number 00002). You can buy a used one...worn to bits at a pawn shop, and build it up however you want. Parts are cheap, unless you start buying match barrels or Volquartsen stuff.
My advice is just that...buy the cheapest beater you can find. He can build the thing out by replacing any parts he may need to with whatever level he is interested in.
