I might get flamed for asking a squid question like this... :D But I am approaching my 16000 mile tune up on my 2008 :yamaha: R6S. My manual is calling for both the steering bearings and swingarm pivot bearings to be repacked at this service interval. Is it absolutely necessary at this time ?

It cant hurt, and they do need inspection and service periodically. Sticky or loose head bearings can be dangerous.

It wouldn't be as important if they put a little grease in from the factory. Sometimes, they can be pretty dry right out of the box. They are slow moving bearings but once lubed, should be good for a while.

you have some good miles on that R6s, If you are going as far as checking them then you might as well replace them. To get to the swingarm bearings you need to remove the swingarm and to get to the neck you need to pull the front end. If you are going through that trouble then throw bearings in it.

Yeah she's my daily rider :D And does sit out in the weather 24/7, guess i should go ahead and break down and get 'em checked/replaced. Couple of questions... If I go ahead and replace the bearings, parts numbered 1,2,3 and 5 in the steering... and just parts numbered 3 and 4 in the swingarm pivot ? (They are called bearing cylinders in the parts list)
