I need to learn how to sharpen a straight razor for shaving, I can get it sharp on my stones but not sharp enough and want to learn how to do it right so I can do it on my own. I have no problem paying for the training

Go as smooth a stone as you can then go to leather (newspaper actually works too) but do it sharp edge backward to the stroke not forward.
ive got one of these sharpeners. I use it for my knives, but the instructions claim you can sharpen scalpels, xacto blades and razors with it. This thing is bad ass. Ive had it for about 15 years.

is it a first time edge or are you trying to just keep it sharp? As a chef i wound up taking a small benchtop grinder, reversing the housings so that you could work with the edge facing you. Then replace the gringind wheels with the wound (sewn) buffing wheels. Use stainless steel polishing compound on one and jewler's rouge on the other. Work slowly with the stainless first and do not let the blade heat up (a container with water helps) . This process removes 99% of the surface scratches and done right will keep a knife like a razor....

 everytime i pull out the lansky, everyone around me starts pulling out their knives and has me do the same thing.

My friend has one of these and it works damn good on my knives, not sure about a straight razor though. But it works on all flat blades so?

damn that looks like alot of work just to sharpen a knife. I can see it if i were a chef or something and my knives didnt need to be sharpened every couple of days, but for pocket knives, i'll stick with my Lansky.
