Unless I am badly mistaken GA changed the law a couple of years ago. Bikes that were tagged prior and which have been tagged without a break since the change are still legal. I don't think you can get a legal tag for any motorcycle with an off-road use MSO under the new law.

probably not going to happen without something funny happening. if you have the original MSO, check to see if its' got "off road use only" stamped on it. that's usually the first clue when you go to the tag office.

it's easy to tag a KTM as they have a full VIN and no stamps and other street legal bikes, but getting just about any of the japanese off road bikes tagged is difficult. unless you have someone in another state that you can sell the bike to and get it tagged then buy it back with a tag already in place, it's probably not going to happen.

check out www.georgiaoffroad.com for info and good luck!

Yea thats it couldnt I just get one of those?Under the old law you could, because GA was one of the states that would let you title a bike with an off-road use MSO. Under the new law GA will not issue a title to a bike with an off-road use MSO at all.

Could always look on ebay or craigslist for a titled frame or take it out of state where someone you know has an address and easier laws to convert it.

its actually still easy to do
after the get the title bond
when your doing the paperwork for the dmv--one of the questions is "does the bike have a national highway safety yad yada sticker" of course a offroad bike wont--but if you check yes--most the cops will just sign off anyway--or if you havea cop buddy--no prob.

That was what I heard as well, that if the original MSO or CO that was issued from the manufacturer was for "Off-road" use, that you could not get it tagged in GA.

However, you could sell the bike to a friend in another state for like a dollar, that does allow it, have them title and tag it and then sell it back to you and you would then simply be transferring an out of state tag, rather than trying to get the state of GA to issue one where one did not exist.

well i just bought a title bond and i talked to a lady at the tag office and she said that all i have to do is call the tag office once i get the title bond and i can get a title and tag and all the good stuff. i just have been too busy/lazy to call and get the things done required like buying the street legal kit and all the other things involed with riding legally

I'm curious to hear the final result. I personally know of one guy who had the police come to his place of work and confiscate his tag. They're closing down on loopholes.

Title bond + LEO sign off = Tagged.

I know, I've done it.

Question is if you can still do it LEGALLY.

Nope, it's not. But if the bike has all the appropriate lights, mirrors, and a horn. It would have the equipment to bring it up to spec. The LEO sigurature basically gives you the pass by the person at the dep. of revenue to send the paperwork off to the state.

I've title bonded four vehicles. Never had an issue.

The title bonding, salvage vehicle inspection, and tag office is all a racket anyway. The only thing they care about is the money. I sweated bullets when I did the rebuild on the strom I had. Came in with a 1" thick folder with documentation. The person running the inspection station didn't want to bother with all of it. He wanted the list of parts I put on it and a before picture. Then the inspector just looked at the bike, turned the key on to look at the mileage, then walked away and said it passed.

A total joke.

so i've finally made some progress. i out on the baja designs street legal kit and threw some cheap mirros on there got a title bind and had to get a form filled out by a police officer to check the vin and say that it has a nhtsa sticker but mine didnt even care and just said yes and if yours actually looks then just go to another station. so i had them fill it out and took the title bond and that form to the tag office and got my title now all i have to do is get insurance on the bike and go to the tag office with proof of insurance and the title and then get a tag so i hope that helps anyone out it took me forever to do but if in a bing it could all be done in about a week maybe less the longest part id say was putting on the kit.

Still sounds like you are depending on finding somebody who doesn't give a crap and will let you slide when you need your paperwork signed rather than actually getting a legal tag.

Cartmanpig92

well if your bike has a nhtsa (or however the letters go) on it then you dodnt have to find someone who doesnt care but all it involves is going around to different police stations. but if you do evverything proper then you cant get a tag without a nhtsa sticker then you cant get it

Your paperwork would be legal. The bike however wouldn't have the NHTSA sticker saying it complies with both emissions and noise limits, neither of which most bikers leave stock anyway so in the end the only difference is a little sticker.....

Exactly.
