WTF is in Jesup that stinks so god awful? I am driving through from Savannah this morning and my nose is on fire from the stench. I saw some fiber factory on the outskirts of town. I am guessing that is what it is from. Why the hell would you want to live in a place that stinks like this? Its worse than that time when Marc's mom ran out of douche....

paper mill. drive thru brunswick and you'll damn near puke.
Stop and eat at a resturaunt, drink a glass of the water (non bottled), and you'll damn near get sick.
I hate driving thru those cities.

You get used to it. Worked in instrumentation for pulp and paper mills for a couple years. The first day is pretty rough but the rest of the time isn't bad. You get back home and realize how fresh the air at home is though :) Locals don't mind because usually a majority of the jobs are there and without it they'll suffer.

Paper mills are bad but when I was growing up in Macon, there was a rendering plant. Google it.

Its a Pulp Mill called Rayioneer that sits dirrectly on the Altamaha River. Whats funny is quite a few yrs ago it was called ITT Rayioneer but EPA came in and found that Rayioneer was poluting the river massively. Thus ITT sold there shares. Of course the EPA fined them but whats a few million to the worlds most productive lumber mill.

One can become accustomed to bad odors and other nasty stuff. During my college days, I worked on the geriatric ward of a state mental hospital in Oklahoma. Geriatric usually means non-ambulatory, which means that they routinely shit their state-provided coveralls. Working the 2-11 shift, one of my duties was to remove said shit laden coveralls and get the dudes into the shower before bed. For the first few days on the job, I made a mighty effort to avoid getting the offensive matter on my nice, white uniform. Then it hit me: you CANNOT remove shit laden coveralls from an unruly and uncooperative mental patient and avoid being branded. So after that point, I just went home smelling like a latrine and threw my whites into the corner of the bathroom, and my (ex) wife took them down to the laundromat the next morning.

And you think paper mills smell bad?

I know when I worked there the most used chemical was a liquid called black liqour, what they use in the process to turn paper white and the biggest no no for the entire facility was styrofoam. A small cup of styrofoam could possible ruin thousands of gallons of blk liqour. personally don't know what exactly black liqour concist of but i know once it gets on your skin, it burns and the only thing that can nuetralize it is vinegar.

Interesting. Black liquor has become a political/ecological battleground and even made it's way into the health care reform debate.

http://prescriptions.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/02/22/white-house-reaches-for-black-liquor/

To pay for additions and enhancements included in President Obama’s health care plan, the White House would rely on something called black liquor. But it has nothing to do with whiskey or responsible alcohol consumption. Black liquor is wood byproduct that can be turned into fuel, and for years pulp and paper companies have burned it to power their plants — while also claiming a biofuel tax credit that was never intended for them.

Rescinding the black liquor tax credit could generate as much as $24 billion in revenue over 10 years, helping to pay for a chunk of the health care legislation.
