Just wish they would allow carry in malls.

Why ban guns where you would need one the most? This is a small win but a good none the less.
I doubt Universities would allow guns on campus even if the bill is signed into law. There would be too much shit flying around and the public would lose their minds. Isn't it ironic though that all of the campus mass shootings have been in "gun free" zones?

I thought it still had to pass the House? I hope it goes through we need all the wins we can get. I would like to be able to carry everywhere, crime knows no boundaries. I thought you could carry in the mall?

Yea it still has to go to the House which is why I said this is only a small win. I dont think you can carry in the mall. I think/thought you could carry in a bar as long as you aren't drinking.

You can't carry any place where alcohol makes up 50% or more of there total earnings. I will have to check on the mall thing again, its been a while since I have read where you can and can not carry.

I didn't know about that but it makes sense that a co-worker told me you could carry into Taco Mac, I guess half of T-Macs earnings is food and the other half alcohol? I dont know.

Actually, Taco Mac has a corporate policy of no guns. So, you can carry but you are technically trespassing.

THey do. Look on the walls. My buddy was carrying at the Mall Of Georgia Taco Mac, he saw the sign and went back to the car.

Yea I think this was mentioned but some of the local ones, I think the one near 575 on Chastian in Kennesaw doesn't have a sign.

No sign = carry regardless if theres a company policy or not. Also I think or atleast it (signs) should be posted at the door in a conspicious or nonconspicious(?) spot.

The way I read it, you can carry at the mall if there aren't any events/public gatherings going on at the mall. Things like public speaker, concert, fair, church, etc, etc. Or if they have it posted no guns allowed. The mall, or any other place with a lot of people, is not considered a public gathering because the people there aren't there for a specific event at a specific place and time. They are just randomly there. Thats the way I understand it, maybe someone with more knowledge on the subject will chime in.
Legally you can carry at any mall. But every mall has a no gun policy it seams. Lazarus, you can carry into an establishment if they have a no guns sign. Signs hold no legal weight in Georgia. BUT, if they see you and ask you to leave you must leave or face a trespass charge.
Oh, and ZX, there is no true definition of public gathering. IF some of us rode our bikes to an empty parking lot and just randomly hung out...that can be interperted as a public gathering and anyone carrying could imediatly be arrested. EVEN if not with the group that is there. You can not be 200 yards of a PG with a firearm. The reason we are trying to get rid of the PG law is cause no one knows what the hell it means. The only place by law that is not a PG is McDonalds.

Guns in bars are a bad idea IMHO. Yes, there are tons of responsible people that have the common sense to carry in that atmosphere but common sense doesn't seem to be a common trait anymore. Personally, if something goes down in a bar I want good witnesses not heroes. On personal time, I never carry in a bar. JM.02

I agree but the flip side of that coin is if I was in a bar and some guy whose drowned his sorrows in liquor because his wife left him for the doorman and took the dog and now he wants to off everybody in the place pulls out and starts shooting I'm going to want my gun. It just goes back to square 1 on why we carry in the first place.
Plus, its not hard for them to go get the gun out of thier car and still shoot the place up. If someone is going to shoot up the place they will do it no matter what the law is. The only Gun Bans/laws do is make more victims.

I don't really want to carry in the bar, but I do want to carry to and from the bar. In Athens you usually have to park a few blocks away from where you want to go. I am always nearvous when walking back to my car at 12, 1, 2 in the morning with no way to defend my wife and myself other than my hands and a pocket knife. I do agree that some people are just to hot headed to have a gun in a bar, but people already carry them there legal or not. I think this bill will allow the responsible people a better chance at defending themselfs from said hot heads.
Side note: My wife and I always take turns being the DD when we go out.

+1. I swear I would file a lawsuit so frickin fast if I, a GFL holder, had to leave my gun in the car and was attacking going to or from car to an establishment and say I got beat up or something happened to my wife.

I might not but if I can bring awareness to some sheeples minds they the attempt would be worth it and any monetary gain would be a bonus.

I recall a bar incident not too long ago where a person walked in and started killing folks. Another patron, legally carrying, pulled and shot the guy before he could do anymore damage.
SIGNS only prevent law-abiding citizens from protecting themselves. Someone intent on harm WILL accomplish his goal.

There is a video of a woman from Texas , that was forced(by law) to leave her gun in the car while having lunch with her parents. While eating lunch a gun man came in and started killing folks. Both of her parents were killed right in front of her. The whole time she knew that if she would have not obeyed the law she could have saved her parents. I will look for the video when I get home.

So what happened? No utube at work but I think I remember hearing about her.
.
On Wednesday, October 16, 1991, Hupp and her parents were having lunch at the Luby's Cafeteria in Killeen. She had left her gun in her car to comply with Texas state law at the time, which forbade carrying a concealed weapon. When George Hennard drove his truck into the cafeteria and opened fire on the patrons, Hupp instinctively reached into her purse for her weapon, but it was in her vehicle. Her father, Al Gratia, tried to rush Hennard and was shot in the chest. As the gunman reloaded, Hupp escaped through a broken window and believed that her mother, Ursula Gratia, was behind her. Hennard put a gun to her mother's head as she cradled her mortally wounded husband. Hupp's mother and father were killed along with twenty-one other persons. Hennard also wounded some twenty others. As a survivor of the Luby's massacre, Hupp testified across the country in support of concealed-handgun laws. She said that had there been a second chance to prevent the slaughter, she would have violated the Texas law and carried the handgun inside her purse into the restaurant[2].

Yes. Even anti gun liberals can see where having to leave your gun at home because you want to drop somone off at the airport or drive past a school when carrying a gun in your car is already legal is pretty stupid. She was trying to make a joke and it made her look like an idiot. She is a friend of my moms and I grew up with her son. Nice lady but bleeding heart.
I think we all know what put an end to the car jacking spree of the late 90's........

By June the Supreme Court is going to rule on a case that could throw out all state and local gun laws. I'm surprised there hasn't been more talk about this.
If I were president of the NRA that would scare the hell out of me. How do you get people to pay their NRA dues if gun control is ruled unconstitutional?
winmutt

Ah I see the Chicago case. I bet they rule in favor of the Feds and toss all local and state laws. Be ready for fed laws about gun control/screening.

More interestingly is that they have already ruled on it this is more about implementation.

macdonald vs chicago won't throw out all state and local gun laws. It could throw out complete bans on many types of weapons or restrictions on how they may be kept. Essentially the lawsuit was already won, but on a federal level. There wasn't much of a sweeping change as a result. The implications of having the second amendment incorporated to the states has a lot of potential though. All states becoming Shall-issue?
Believe me, the NRA will always have some measure of gun control to fight against, and my money doesn't go to them anyways.

We wouldn't but the board of regents and president adams of UGA are all considerably anti-gun, regardless of what common sense or established trends are. Colorado administration banned weapons on campus even though it is legal, the students wanted it, and there hadn't been an accident or gun theft since it was made legal. Some people are just irrational.

If they could see it, I doubt we would have had the problem with atlanta we did last year. Should they see it? Obviously. Limiting where your car can be with your weapon inside it limits ALL of the places you can have your weapon.

To help clear up some details of the current gun laws :
1. Don't carry to a PG (sports, church, fair grounds, and the like)
2. If they have a "No Gun Allowed Sign" it's means do do. If they see you with a gun they have the right to ask you to leave because other wise you will be trespassing. You can carry in a mall b/c it's not a PG. If you plan on going to one of those places with those cute little signs posted (like some banks and brandsmart) just conceal and don't print.
3. You can pick your kid up with a gun in the car but don't plan on staying when the teacher wont's to complain about little Jimmy being a lil shit.
4. If you go to college technically you can't travel through the area with a gun. (Disclaimer I'm not too certain on how this law works. Go to Georgia packing and do a little research. I need to as I go to school at UGA).
5. If you don't or do have a GFL you can put the gun anywhere in your car or bike and be completely legal. No, you don't have to inform the officer that you are carrying. (If you are on a bike and it's on your side make sure you have a GFL)
6. If you have a current Military ID its just like a GFL and don't technically need a GFL ( I would recommend it though). Also, you have the privileges of carrying just like an LEO does.
*****INAL, so take this as you wish*****
