Still way too much of the US and the world with no net access, mp3 players aren't going to die any time soon.

Sales are certainly down, since many people are just using their smartphone as their MP3 player, but there are still a lot of people buying iPods. The product lineup is probably just going to change a bit. They've been slowly phasing out the Classic model for the last 2 years. I picked up one of the 160GB units to put in the car (which Isn't even 1/3 full, even with my entire library on there...)
If they were to come out with a 128 GB touch model, then I'd probably switch to that so I wouldn't have to worry about a hard drive unit in the car.
But I don't think the whole lineup will be going away, just changing.

Exactly. The Touch itself is a gateway device for the iPhone. Pretty much been the purpose of it from the beginning. Reminds me, I need to grab a 160gb myself for the truck. I've still got my old 120gb that is still doing a great job but it's getting full.

I think that the iPod Nano's still have a good market. Small, light, can clip them anywhere. Perfect for working out, or I use mine on the bike. Put a piece of velcro on the left switch housing so that I can control my music with my thumb while riding without taking my hand off the grip.
But when every phone has decent storage and can do everything that an iPod does, it is sort of redundant to have two similar sized devices. Only thing is capacity, but my music collection is over 33,000 songs and I wouldn't want all that on my portable device anyway, it would take way too long to scroll through to find what I want, so I usually limit my portable music collection to 1,000 songs and fill up the rest with DVD rips.

how much of your life was taken up by those 33K songs?? Do you atleast make money off of it and run a radio station?

I have the Lunatik also and love it. Check eBay for the Nano. This is amazingly convenient for yard work and walking and such. Also will be using it with the mountain bike, it works amazingly well.

80's? That size? Not that I remember (last half is a touch hazy tho). Unless you have the screen showing a calculator but even then it'll need a smaller band.

I want Heather Nova's new cd and Josh Groban's hits. Went to Walmart and they had a very poor selection. I guess Im getting older and need to buy an ipod or something

Eh, Wal Mart kind of sucks for selection the few times I've looked through it. Add in them censoring stuff and it's more annoying.

i know there is alway's the internet, but i just like to go and hold the cd, listen to it that day on the way home and browse. I like the CD Warehouse in Buford, they usually have some good old stuff

So get it off the internet and make a CD from it? I mean, in all seriousness, who wants to have to cart around large discs that can only hold maybe 20 songs, when you can have something smaller than an Oreo cookie that holds thousands?

Makes sense to me, same deal for people who like lp's. Not my personal thing but I'm much more a want it right now person. If I don't download it when I'm thinking of it, I'll forget about it.

Go figure, my 160g classic crapped out on me last week. Battery got really low and now it won't charge, just says "Charging, Please Wait..." Left it for days and says the same thing. Any way to reboot when they get like this?

Have you tried swapping the battery out with a different one? ;-)

Never tried that, how hard are they to get into? Where would you get the battery, batteries plus? Might be cheaper just to send it to Apple.

you have to order a battery kit, comes with tools to open it up and a battery

Before you go tearing it apart, did you try a hard reset? (Hold menu and play buttons simultaneously for a few seconds until the apple logo shows up.... since your battery is acting weird, you'll probably need to do it while it's plugged in)

makes perfect sense. All you need is the touch and the nano

I just used the blade of my pocketknife. As long as you're careful, you won't break anything. You just have to pop the metal past the clips.
