I'm a great grandkid who owns a .45 that didn't cost anywhere near that much.

They'll have to dig me up and get them out of my casket. If the grandchildren I don't have want my guns......fine. It's still going to perform like a 1911 with a Versace price tag.
Wow, these guys are sure proud of their guns.

They don't have to sell that many to make a good living.

i can guarantee you that a glock 21 will shoot just as well. if you want a cool .45 buy a H&K SOCOM pistol or a FNP .45 tactical.

I bought a S&W 1911. I'll bet money that it shoots just as well also. That's a damn nice gun, but waaaaay out of my price range. I'd rather have an Ed Brown if I'm going over $2,000.....

As soon as I saw the link for Wilson Combat link I was sure that it was an over priced 1911. I'm sure it's a great pistol, but at 5 grand, there are a whole boatload of pistolsmith's that can and will build a far better pistol.

I wanted a 1911 just for heritage, quality, and "accuracy".
I ended up with a nickel upper glock 23 because I watched enough hickock45 videos on youtube to realize that man can shoot anything and make it hit a target from way further than anyone else!

Think of it as a Rolex Daytona for your holster.

Agreed. At the price point of Kimber, Wilson's, and the like it's more of a status aspect than perceivable performance over another pistol. That's not to say that all pistols are created equal, and they will outperform lower quality and pricepoint weapons, just that if you're putting a Kimber next to a Wilson, next to the Ed Brown it's usually going to come down to a personal choice than anything concrete. Just my .02
But put them next to an entry Colt, Springfield, or maybe some of their own entry level weapons and you're going to see a huge difference. Some things will be quite clear, like the different checkerings on the straps, the display qualities of the materials, and the included custom features, but where they will really shine is their long term aging character. The higher priced ones are usually machined to higher tolerances, will mate better with their other components for longer, and based on their status symbol quality can maintain or even increase value with age.
I love my Kimber, but I will be the first to say that the only reason I bought it over any other 1911 is simply because I wanted a handgun that could relate to the Bentley vehicles. A Hyundai will get you from A to B just as well as that Bentley, but the B is all about style and status. In the same respect I could have saved hundreds of dollars by purchasing even a midrange Colt or Springfield and not been disappointed with the performance, I wanted the "luxury" of owning a Kimber at least once in my life.

No, but I put them in the same luxury class of weapons that Wilson and the rest fall into. Not saying a Wilson or a Kimber or the rest can't get dirty with the rest of them, they can no doubts, but they are a higher grade of weapon than most.
I looked at some of those 4k and up 1911s when I was shopping, too. They're really nice, but like you guys, I can't choke on it. I debated using a Cadillac reference in my earlier post, since my Kimber isn't on par with the Wlson's and the Wilsons would be a closer comparison to a Ferrari. They're pretty, they can perform awesomely, and they're pretty pricey.

but unlike a ferrari they are still redneck:lol:

Take a peek at how Supergrades are made. They are entirely hand fitted and their price reflects that. These pistols are built for the people that like old world craftsmanship. They also hold their value pretty well too. I shoot a Glock and cant pony up the cash for a Supergrade but I do appreciate them.
