My brother and I bought a pair of these things. So far, I have installed and tested mine with my ipod and my cell phone (inside the house). I haven't had a chance to ride with it just yet, so I can't report on it. uh60bro(my brother) used his yesterday and said it was fantastic. I don't know how well the intercom works, but the music is clear even when pushing your bike pretty hard (according to him).

I use the new HJC RPS-10 helmet, and it was pretty easy to install in this helmet. The only problem was with the bottom of the cheek pads. The bottom runs waaaayyyyyy back on the helmet. this gets in the way, but is not too hard to work out. Installation was pretty darn easy. Syncing it was a breeze. The controls are easy to manipulate, even with gloves (yes, I was walking around my house wearing my helmet and my gloves).

If you receive an intercom call or a phone call while you are listening to music, the unit defaults to the call and pauses the music. You can restart the music after the call. The unit has the ability to operate via VOX, but that's pretty much a PITA.

I will update after getting a chance to go for a ride with Bro this weekend.

Any updates? I know a lot of people have the Scala but for me, well I prefer earbuds and the Scala does not allow that.

Sorry about not following up on this! I can't ride without these things. Bro and I ride with others a great deal, and this gives us the ability to communicate about what's going on and what we need to do during the ride. My phone will bluetooth to the unit, my ipod does too. It has 4 other "slots" for other SMH 10 devices. Sometimes, it doesn't work exactly right. If my brother hits me up on the connection, sometimes it doesn't work. It always works when I contact him. I think he needs a firmware update. Otherwise, these things are great.

In-ear speakers are much louder, and you do lose volume at high speeds. The Sena model does not utilize in-ear speakers either. The speakers are better IMO than the Scala. Most of the people I ride with agree on that. Up to about 120mph, the volume is audible, but above that you lose sound. I am a huge fan of them.

Just an FYI, you can by a different base, which I think is $30, for the Sena that allows you to plug in earbuds, that is why I am leaning so heavily towards them.
