View Full Version : Tagorama 2010!

I't back. The last tag is in the next post.
Here's a link to the map: GSB Tagorama tag map (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=114724787037338636587.00045bd00c2b314285032&z=8).
I'll post up some rules along here soon but the basics are:
1. A TAG is a photo of a place in GA with your motorcycle in the picture. There should be something identifiable in the photo so others can identify and locate the tag, and/or clues posted along with the photo. The clues can be about identification, location, route, whatever takes others to the spot. We all have google so think in those terms. "Built in 1908 and moved to this location in 1941" for example, is a highly googleable phrase.
2. Once a tag is posted, other riders ride to the location and take a new picture showing the same location and THEIR motorcycle in the picture. That's a CLAIM. The rider that claims a tag must also post a full identification of the location. That may be an address or just the name of a place. It will vary depending on the location. But the photo has to be essentially the same.
a) The first person to post the new photo gets the CLAIM. It doesn't matter who got there first. It matters who posts the photo here at GSB first.
3. Once a rider claims a tag, they have 48 hours to post a new tag for others to find and claim. If a new tag isn't posted in 48 hours, they lose their claim to the previous tag and it is back up for claiming by anybody. Of course, everybody knows where it is at that point. That's the way it is.
4. Tags must be a publicly accessible spot. You must be able to get there on paved road. Gravel or dirt parking lots are OK, but no gravel, dirt or other non paved surfaces are allowed as part of the ROUTE to the tag.
We gradually worked out various other details in the previous round of this but I can't remember all of them right now.
The point of the game is to ride motorcycles to interesting locations - something worth seeing that others may not know about. There are no prizes, no winners, no losers. Have fun. Be safe. Show us something cool.

This neighborhood is home to pilots, some of whom fly home and land like mallards. It's also called GA04 to some.
(This one is already on the map so you can just look there if you want for the location. But if you don't want to, I found it from the clue above and the photos and you can too.)

Tough one with the name of the subdivision on the sign there. LOL

03-27-2010, 05:00 PM
Well, it's already on the map too so the location of this one is no mystery.
Meanwhile, I have a created a spreadsheet with all the photo URL's that are missing from the map. I'll email it to the first person that has access to the map and is willing to copy/paste them in. There's two photos for each tag - the original and the claim. Also, the map has two tags called "#136". Could one of the editors also fix that. It will help with the copy/paste, too, because the pairs are listed by tag # per the map.
Some are missing because they were uploaded to GSB instead of to a hosting service and those are gone. Also some of the URLs are broken. I've listed the name of the person that posted the photo on those so maybe they can retrieve them and give the map editors a good url.
Carry on.

Yeah, well, what's interesting to one person is not to another. That is, actually, a fly-in neighborhood which is sort of interesting.

Well the Map is updated but for some reason there is two 136's and I don' have a clue what is going on there.... and I am not going to bother with it right now. If anyone looks at the map and can figure out what I did, let me know and I will fix it.
There are some pictures missing, any help recovering them would be great. If you don't know how or don't want to host it, let me know and I will.
Otherwise, we have have a good map now to work with.

Hmm. I thought that was on purpose since one of them was a duplicate tag. That would keep the tag count accurate as to the total number of unique tags. But if Google won't let you change it, that's weird. I thought the numbering was manual. It doesn't really matter.
Mind if I add the map to my sig?

The numbering is manual, all of it is.... I am just trying to get it all correct and it starts to look all the same... I will make the corrections you emailed me about sometime tonight.

Mallard Landing, in the bag. I was gonna grab a new one while I was out but got swallowed up by Friday afternoon traffic and just fled back home to get out of it. I'll try to get out in the morning and put up a new one.

I think there's enough clues in the shot of the marker to get you there.
Somebody grab this tomorrow and get this thing going again.

Here u go
I think this should be somewhat easy
I take my best buds there all the time..
The actual spot was owned by the Wigley family. Henry Clay Wigley continued to live at the base of the mountain for decades.
It is the second-highest point in the this county, and third in the core metro Atlanta area, behind Stone Mountain east of Atlanta.

Let's see if I do this right.
Your spot is the Sweat Mountain Dog Park:
Named Best Dog Park in Summer by Atlanta Magazine
"One of the largest public parks in the metro area, Sweat Mountain is almost all shade, making this the perfect place for dogs in the summer-time - especially if they are easily overheated or especially furry."

Clue: funded in part by the Marcus Foundation. Anne Frank, Tuskegee Airmen, WWII, Holocaust.
Should be pretty easy but I just found out about this site so I figured I would publicize it some.

Since people have lost interest and will not drive out of their neighborhood to grab a tag, maybe we should allow tagging via google earth. It could be worldwide. Post up a google earth pic of someplace and people have to figure out where it is. Or just let it die. The other game, super awesome, is going well and many of the shots don't even require you to leave your garage.

Yeah I gave up on this, even deleted the tag map from my Bing map list. The google map still exists. Search google maps for "GSB Tag-O-Rama" (set search option for "user created maps"). I can't seem to get the direct link to work. If somebody can come up with a twist to revitalize it, have at it.

Okay, this isn't the best one in the world, but it will get us started:

Hints:
It is in the mountains relatively close to Dahlonega.
It's next to the entrance to a popular waterfall state park.
