Sarah and I decided it was time to go play on both of our new street bikes today. It started off a bit chilly, but was forecasted to be pretty nice. We wanted to go check out a restaurant up in Ellijay, GA and planned on taking the long and scenic route there.
I think it ended up being a bit more of an adventure then we were after, but it was all good.
When we left the house, my bike needed gas, so off to a gas station to fill up.

We had both of our GPS's programmed with the route and I let Sarah lead most of the way

Pretty soon, we were on some nice gravel roads

With all the dirt biking we've been doing, I could really see it paying off in Sarah's riding. She was standing up a lot and really handling her BMW like a pro

We came up on where the Silver Comet Trail (bike trail) crosses the road we were on

Pretty soon, the gravel road had turned into dirt
http://bluelghtning.smugmug.com/Motorcycle-Trips-and-Travels/Day-Trips-Gallery/2010-03-27-Cajun-Depot-Ft-Mtn/1001906/820918162_48zhW-L.jpg
It still wasn't bad, so we were trucking along
http://bluelghtning.smugmug.com/Motorcycle-Trips-and-Travels/Day-Trips-Gallery/2010-03-27-Cajun-Depot-Ft-Mtn/1001908/820918616_4jQ4T-L.jpg
We started to see a few deep ruts, but everything was still very manageable
http://bluelghtning.smugmug.com/Motorcycle-Trips-and-Travels/Day-Trips-Gallery/2010-03-27-Cajun-Depot-Ft-Mtn/1001909/820918975_wTwWu-L.jpg
Then we found some mud. We both are on Tourances which really are 90/10 tires and definitely nothing spectacular in the mud

This could be interesting, but doesn't look terrible

All was good until I tried to follow the tire tracks from one rut to another. My rear tire didn't want to follow and I got sideways in 2 ruts.

I'm stuck, so Sarah's walking up to come help me

We pull my bike backwards so I can put both wheels back in the same rut

Up ahead, we see more mud and its not looking very pretty. We decide before we bring Sarah's bike up here, we should check out this mud and see how soft it is and if we can make it through.
Here we are checking out the next mud hole
http://bluelghtning.smugmug.com/Motorcycle-Trips-and-Travels/Day-Trips-Gallery/2010-03-27-Cajun-Depot-Ft-Mtn/1001920/820922758_eGNcu-L.jpg

Sarah walks way up to see if there's any more and it looks clear, so I decide to give it a try. Sarah and I have headsets so that's why you hear her talking, but not me. She's talking on me over our Scala Q2's which I gotta say is so nice!
Listen for at the end where she says I can either go get her beemer or be picking it up! I decided to go fetch it! lol!
<object width="800" height="600" ><param name="movie" value="http://cdn.smugmug.com/ria/ShizVidz-2010012201.swf" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="flashVars" value="s=ZT0xJmk9ODIwOTI1NDYzJms9OGV3SGMmYT0xMTY0MzAyN19Q Z1FZVSZ1PUJsdWVMZ2h0bmluZw==" /><embed src="http://cdn.smugmug.com/ria/ShizVidz-2010012201.swf" flashVars="s=ZT0xJmk9ODIwOTI1NDYzJms9OGV3SGMmYT0xMTY0MzAyN19Q Z1FZVSZ1PUJsdWVMZ2h0bmluZw==" width="800" height="600" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true"></embed></object>
This is me bringing the beemer through the mud. I know I could have done better on it. It actually handled it pretty well.
<object width="800" height="600" ><param name="movie" value="http://cdn.smugmug.com/ria/ShizVidz-2010012201.swf" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="flashVars" value="s=ZT0xJmk9ODIwOTI4OTE2Jms9eFRKcFImYT0xMTY0MzAyN19Q Z1FZVSZ1PUJsdWVMZ2h0bmluZw==" /><embed src="http://cdn.smugmug.com/ria/ShizVidz-2010012201.swf" flashVars="s=ZT0xJmk9ODIwOTI4OTE2Jms9eFRKcFImYT0xMTY0MzAyN19Q Z1FZVSZ1PUJsdWVMZ2h0bmluZw==" width="800" height="600" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true"></embed></object>
After getting through that, it was clear sailing. Our boots were pretty muddy and my rubber mounted foot pegs reminded me of one more farkle I needed on my bike. Mud and rubber padded foot pegs don't work at all. We were also getting very warm, so we decided to stop at a gas station to shed some layers.
It turned out this guy was there to wash cars. He offered up his hose so that we could wash off our boots and bikes. We cleaned off the edge of our tires and washed our boots and pants legs of the mud before it dried!

We saw plenty of other bikes out. These guys came up behind us. I think that is a Triumph Sprint 1050 in the blue. I think the other one was a VFR maybe? Both of them had luggage bags.

Always liked reading your ride report Dan and that look's like 4wd mud road's I take on my Tundra on and I enjoy messing with that truck but cleaning it ain't too fun (LOL).
How did u like dealing with the Wind today me and my friend on his r6 got pushed around pretty good . A few times the wind pushed me into his lane. I've been in conditions like this before but never this bad.
