    Lost my bike key :( 08 R1

Last time I rode my baby was about a month ago..

Since then I've put her up for sale and few people came in and checked it out last Saturday

just to find out that I misplaced my key somewhere and cannot find it..

What would be the easiest/cheapest cost to get my key rekeyed? I've been stressed out so much about this and it's been keeping me up at night :(

Any help/advise would be much appreciated.

I'm not the original owner.. 2nd owner.... so I don't have that metal tag.. I guess it's still worth asking the dealership with my VIN huh? and Title#?

Or take off the ignition and take it to a locksmith to match up a key, if the dealer can't do it.

Depends on the bike and they usually have those security bolts with those fancy star heads.

Just take your time. My buddy lost his key and found a locksmith to re-key it.

Just make sure you can find a locksmith capable and willing to do it. Before you start tearing it apart. Good luck

if you own the bike legally and have title you can get a key at dealer very easy....if you're not the owner best of luck

Me personally, I would not buy a bike unless it has the original key or keys...If they are copies I avoid them at all cost.
    Why you say?

    To many people stealing bikes

They will pick a bike up
    sand the vin
buy another title off ebay or some place and re stamp the frame
make a new key or switch the lock cylinder and they have a key for gas tank, another for trunk, another to crank...

I almost bought something like this and after seeing the clues I backed out and left and called 911 about it.I always wonder if anything happen to them.

If you don't mind spending some extra cash (and some extra time) then you can just replace all of the locks on the bike (and throw the old ones away).

Instead of removing just the ignition (which is fastened to the upper triple by security bolts that you have to drill through), I would just buy an entire locked set that has a new ignition already attached to a triple.

The gas tank and rear seat locks are not very complicated. You should probably be able to find a set on a message board on ebay for ~$200.

Not sure what a locksmith would charge you?
