How hard is it to retitle a salvage bike in Georgia

I'm seeing some fabulous prices on sportbikes on the salvage boards. Many have just minor scuff damage. How difficult/expensive is it to get a street legal title for a restored salvage bike? I tried the GA DMV site but all it had was tons of legalese that I could not comprehend.

    A few still
It's all about the money with Georgia. I rebuilt my strom. I took pics of everything. I had about 100 pages worth of pics and receipts. The guy just glanced at the stack, grabbed a before pic out and asked for the money order. The inspection is a joke as well. "Key on, headlight works? good. Got a mirror? good. Turn signals? good Brake light? Good. PASS"

It's not that expensive. I think the state fee is just $75. However the place that does the inspection can charge their own fee on top of that. I remember it being under $200 for our 650R.

It was EASSSSYYYY for me and my Ducati. Mine only needed a new brake lever, and really another mirror. But even then, I learned that you're only required to have one mirror. I also replaced the kickstand, but only b/c I thought it was originally bent. That's it! I got it inspected for just around $125 and sent off the paperwork for the title.

I would definitely recommend buying a salvage bike as long as you get it checked out beforehand to make sure nothing internally is wrong with the bike. And the prices are great. Also, you have to have a little time on your hands. I wasn't able to ride mine "legally" for about a month because I was waiting on parts being shipped.

But best of luck with everything!

Cool! Thanks for all the info. I'm glad it is pretty straightforward. I'm looking at a 600RR in PA that has only minor lowside damage to one side and the current price is only half the KBB value. For that kind of savings, I can afford a trip to Pennsylvania and ordering some parts off of the Internet.

Of course, first I have to get the wife to be OK with me having two bikes . I'll keep everyone posted.

If it's only got side damage, make sure that's the only thing that's keeping it from becoming a 'clear' title. Whoever is selling it should be able to answer the question as to "what's making it a salvage title bike?" And as soon as you find that out, it shouldn't be that hard to turn it into a clean one. Good luck with the wife saying OK. hehe
